Tourist flow from Russia to Turkey decreased by 33% in April

Against the background of difficulties with air traffic between Russia and Turkey, the Russian tourist flow to the republic decreased by 33%.

According to ATOR, citing data from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Turkey, Russia took fifth position among the leaders of the tourist flow to Turkey with 130,150 visits, which was 16.6% less than April 2021.

However, according to experts, real losses are about 33.3% (in 2021 Since April 15, flights to Turkey have been suspended). It is specified that in April 2019-2021, the Russian Federation ranked first in the TOP-5 entry markets.

In general, in April of this year, foreigners made 2,574,423 trips to Turkey. This figure was lower than the figure for the pre-Covid April 2019 (3,293,176 trips). At the same time, compared with April 2021, the foreign tourist flow to Turkey increased by 225.6%.

The following countries were included in the TOP-5 leaders in inbound tourism to Turkey in April 2022:

  • Germany (395,372 trips);
  • Bulgaria (279,997);
  • United Kingdom (225,296);
  • Iran (152,384);
  • Russia (130,150).

Also provides statistics on the Russian tourist flow to Turkey for the first 4 months of 2022 compared to the same periods in 2021 and 2019. So, in January-April of this year, Russians made 490,914 trips to Turkey, which was 11.1% less than in 2021 and 30.9% less than in 2019.
